Effects of Alternate and Constant Temperature on Growth and Flowering of Doritaenopsis ¢¥ Happy Valentine ¢¥ Propagated by Leaf Segment and Seed Culture

Abstract
This study was conducted to develop a forcing method by alternate or constant temperature treatments of Doritaenopsis propagated by leaf segment and seed culture. Inflorescence length and diameter showed no difference between alternate temperature (day/night, 23¡¾3/18¡¾2¡É) and constant temperature (23¡¾3¡É) treatments. Flower number per inflorescence increased at alternate temperature, and higher growth and flower quality were observed in clonally propagated Doritaenopsis as compared to seedlings. In clonally propagated Doritaenopsis, flowering was concentrated to short time, however, in two-year-old seedlings, flowering was delayed and flowering rate tended to be decreased. In case of physiological disorder, the death of flower buds, inflorescences and unflowering rate were higher at constant temperature than at alternate temperature. Two-year-old seedlings resulted in higher rate of physiological disorders compared to three-year-old seedlings and two-year-old clonally propagated Doritaenopsis.
